Jamaican Federation Team Makes Good in Yukon Quest Race |

Borlänge, Sweden – It’s a story to warm your heart – right out of a Walt Disney Hollywood script: the young lad overcomes great obstacles to accomplish a mighty feat. In this case, the young lad is Newton Marshall, age 25, from the tropics of Jamaica in the Caribbean. The obstacles: overcoming illiteracy and lack of education and some bad choices to become the first Jamaican and only black person to finish (in 13th place out of 18 finishing teams – with 11 teams scratching) the grueling Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race, a 1,000 mile journey between Whitehorse (Yukon Territory) Canada and Fairbanks (Alaska) USA. Although the Iditarod Sled Race from Anchorage to Nome (Alaska) in the United States usually steals most of the publicity in sled dog racing, the Yukon Quest sports the reputation as being the hardest of all the distance races.

Borlänge, Sweden – IFSS (International Federation of Sleddog Sports) Vice President Bernard Pépin has announced that all the doping control tests preformed at the recent IFSS World Championships in Daaquam (Quebec) Canada were negative. Testing was done on both canines and humans in compliance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines. |

Daaquam, (Quebec) Canada – The IFSS 2009 Winter World Championships are over, and competitors, crews and fans are home now warming their toes after temperatures averaging in the minus twenties Celsius. Over 300 teams representing sixteen countries plied the trails for the top honors. The events extended over nine days from January 17th through the 25th in the snow-covered area of Saint Just-de-Breteniéres.
