Jamaica Sleddog Federation Musher Newton Marshall to Sign Up for Iditarod and Train with Champion Lance Mackey

 June 4, 2009 (Ocho Rios, Jamaica) – Three-time Iditarod and four-time Yukon Quest champion Lance Mackey will be training Jamaica Dogsled Team musher Newton Marshall as he prepares to race the Iditarod in 2010.  
“I was fortunate to have Hans Gatt train me over the past two years and help me finish the Yukon Quest” said Marshall. “Now I will get the chance to work with another champion – he has won three Iditarods! I know I can do this race.”

IFSS Announces 2011 Winter World Championships

Monticello, Minnesota USA – IFSS (International Federation of Sleddog Sports) is proud to announce that Norway has been selected as the site of the 2011 IFSS Winter World Championships. Events will include all the winter categories of sled dog competition: Nordic style and Nome (sled) sprint, mid-distance, and long distance.

Nordic classes and Nome sprint 4- and 8-dog classes will take place at the Holmenkollen National Ski Arena in Oslo March 10-13, 2011. Holmenkollen is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Norway and an icon within international sports venues. It is presently undergoing renovations for the 2011 FIS (Fédération Internationale de Ski) World Championships, including new design of all trails. It is anticipated that remodeling will be completed in 2010.

South Americans Gear up for Intercontinental Championships

Buenos Aires, Argentina – Antonio Ocanto, president of the Argentina Club Amigos de los Perros de Trineo, is pleased to announce that the 2009 Intercontinental Championships of South America will be held for eight days from August 28th through September 4th, jointly hosted by the Mushing Club Mendoza and the Association Unidos para la Protección Animal General Alvear (AUPPAGA – the United Association for the Protection of Animals - General Alvear). Given the vast differences in elevations and weather conditions in Argentina, both dryland and snow events are able to run within the same time frame and minimal distances apart.
