Monticello, Minnesota USA – IFSS (International Federation of Sleddog Sports) has scheduled a two-day training seminar for prospective race judges for Thursday and Friday, September 23-24, 2010, in conjunction with its General Assembly to be held near Dublin, Ireland, September 25-26, 2010.

Anyone is welcome to attend this judges training. However, it is limited to 15 persons, and reservations must be made to IFSS Vice President for Sport, Bernard Pepin ( This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ). The training is free. The trainer will be Bernard Pepin, IFSS VP for Sport, who has extensive knowledge and experience in presenting this seminar.  The training will conclude with the written test, which is required in order to gain IFSS judging certification. After having passed the exam with satisfactory result, and after having served as a race judge apprentice in two different approved races and preferably under two different race marshals, and upon recommendation from said race marshals, one may apply for an IFSS race judge license.

In the evening of Friday, September 24th, Carin Ahlstedt (Sweden), chair of the IFSS Anti-Doping Committee, will give a presentation on the basics of the IFSS Anti-Doping Program and WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) Rules. It is free and open to anyone wishing to attend. This session, approximately two hours in length, will be of particular interest to the IFSS National Federations in that NFs have a responsibility to implement and carry out anti-doping regulations in their home countries as they pertain to both canines and humans.
The 2010 opening of the General Assembly will take place on Saturday morning, September 25th. The Bel-Air Hotel and Equestrian Center in Ashford will be the meeting site. It is set in the midst of 200 acres of farm and parkland with breathtaking views across the countryside out to the sea. The Victorian manor house offers old world charm and comfort, and the family has welcomed visitors to Bel-Air since 1937. Ashford is approximately 40 minutes south of Dublin City Centre.
Although the Bel-Air has only a minimum number of lodging rooms, Ashford has a number of other hotels and bed & breakfasts. Information will be forthcoming later this spring for those wishing to attend this important IFSS meeting. IFSS regularly holds its general assemblies in even-numbered years. Other hot topics anticipated for the 2010 GA include race rules, by-laws, and the 2011 Winter IFSS World Championships in Norway.
